Ascent Group
Where
can the over-fifties find spirituality, mission and friendship in their
parishes? The Ascent Movement provides for just such needs in its groups.
Founded in France in 1951 by a retired priest, Ascent
was dedicated to develop spirituality, friendship and apostolate of
the laity, and in particular, those in the ‘third stage’
of their lives, older and retired. It is now an international movement
recognised by the hierarchy, having been admitted as an active member
of Vie Montante Internationale (the international
Movement that has been recognised by decree by the Pontifical Council
for the Laity dated 25 March 1996).
Here in Sacred Heart, Ascent offers a warm welcome to new members - no appointment is necessary. Just come along to one of the twice-monthly meetings (keep an eye on the Bulletin for dates - usually the second and fourth Thursdays of the month). It is open to all christian men and women in their middle and later years and provides friendship, cheery company, a chance to exchange views - perhaps over a cuppa! - and occasional outings together. All within a warm, christian community.
Membership costs 60p per meeting, that's only £1.20 per month, which goes towards costs. So if you are over fifty, retired (or thinking about it), and feel the need for some friendly and interesting company, come along to Ascent. They will be delighted to welcome you.
