Justice and Peace Group
Our Aims:
Our
aims are to increase our own awareness of social injustices - locally,
nationally and globally - and then to take action to promote awareness
in others and to effect change in our world according to the teachings
of Christ.
"Act justly, love tenderly, walk humbly with your God."Micah 6.8
Activities we undertake or plan together with other churches include the following:-( if anyone has ideas for other initiatives, please let us know and we will try to support them):
- Water Filter Campaign: to raise both funds and awareness of the need for clean water in developing countries.
- Christians in Palestine: talk by Fr Paul Madison from East Anglia about the plight of Christians in Palestine.
- Live Music Night: in association with MASH, to raise funds for the Baghdad Children's Hospital and the Mogibi Hospital in Kenya.
- FairTrade: raise awareness of FairTrade issues.
- Make Poverty History: taking part in the rally in Edinburgh in July 2005, and raising awareness of the campaign to relieve Third World debt and unfair trade tariffs and practices.
- Organise collections for Pax Christi.
- Support postcard campaigns and petitions for CAFOD.
- Attend diocesan and national Justice and Peace activities.
We would like to do more support disadvantaged people nationally and
globally, such as torture and abuse victims, the Campaign
against the Arms Trade, and also campaigns for Trade Justice and
in support of sustainable development and protecting the world in which
we live. To find out more about some of these issues and campaigns please
look at the page of links
to campaign web sites.
The Justice and Peace Group organise activities that allow us to do
something about the injustice in our world. There are regular updates
on these activities in the weekly Parish
Bulletin. We meet once a month, on the second Monday in the month,
and are a friendly group of people Just like you. If you are interested
in participating in these activities then please contact John Dowling,
the Parish Co-ordinator.
